Wellness in a Post-Pandemic World
The pandemic has seen many organisations adopting remote and flexible work arrangements. With these new ways of working becoming the norm, wellbeing is becoming an increasingly important topic for organisations.
With employees being away from the office, it is now more challenging for leaders to identify early signs that an employee is struggling and are not able to act in time to protect their wellbeing. In addition, mental health has become a prevailing issue, and employers who make it a priority can give themselves a competitive advantage.
Organisations need to consider their employee experience no matter where an employee is working from. Here’re 3 key actions that can help organisations enhance employee wellness post-pandemic:
Take time to understand your employee’s level of well-being
Creating an Employee Wellbeing Strategy begins with understanding your employee’s level of wellbeing and thereby determining the gaps that may exist. This can include conducting an Employee Engagement Survey with specific well-being questions or a specialised well-being Assessment. The assessment should include different dimensions of wellbeing such as one’s physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, financial and social needs.
Focus on customizable solutions that are sustainable
During the pandemic, many of us learnt that everyone has vulnerabilities and a life outside of work, and that is normal. One of the biggest things that organisations can do for their people is trust them and support them to find a working rhythm that works for the individual. Employees frequently go to their leaders for guidance when they’re looking for a sense of purpose and that does not mean a focus on the business’s financial goals only. There is no one size fit all strategy hence it is also important to consider how organisations can best help every employee with customizable solutions that are sustainable.
Create a workplace where employees feel safe to speak about their wellbeing
Creating multiple channels for employees to share their thoughts is important. While some employees may be comfortable sharing their thoughts in a meeting, others may prefer to have more personal space to share their thoughts. Besides face-to-face discussions, encourage employees to share feedback via email or through online collaboration tools, like Slack or Microsoft Teams. In addition, encouraging personal reflections like journaling and affirmations can also help employees feel supported.
